3 Things You Didn't Know About The Rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle

Hey diddle diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed,
To see such fun,
And the dish ran away with the spoon

Wikipedia tells us that the earliest recorded version of this rhyme dates back to 1765, when it was printed in Mother Goose's Melodies. We are also told that its true origins may lie at least a thousand years before that. Now, as good, faithful folk, we all know that anything written thousands of years ago is obviously true, must be taken at face value and is sufficient reason to kill and maim each other.

So here are 3 lessons from Hey Diddle Diddle :

1. Pioneering Space Travel

Which was the first animal in space? It was the cow that jumped over the moon! And here we had all been led to believe that it was Albert the monkey.
This fact, if publicised, might compel NASA to grant a pension to cows living in shelters such as the one in Kurukshetra.

2. Canine vs Bovine

As the fourth line of the rhyme tells us, the dog laughed at the cow's antics. This is proof of the fact that dogs of yore often scorned cows. Today, the tables have turned. While cows are objects of veneration, dogs are often used for laboratory testing of chemicals. Guess who had the last moo!

3. Dishes are unreliable. Use Banana leaf instead.

Taking advantage of world attention being focused on the cow's space travels, the dish eloped with the spoon. As we know, young dishes have always tried to woo comely spoonsters. This is as much a menace today as it was millenia ago. In fact, there is such a shortage of spoons today that it is difficult to find one to put in one's mouth. Many politicians have found a novel way around this by putting their foot there instead.

P.S. -
The above post is meant as light humour and sarcasm. Unlike the epics of yore, this is a joke and is purely for entertainment of the writer. And anybody else who is having boring a Sunday.
